Complete with a glass bottom, these metal tankards are a perfect gift! The legend is that the beer tankard with a glass bottom was developed as a way of refusing the King’s shilling, i.e. forced enlistment into the British army or navy. The drinker could see the coin in the bottom of the glass and refuse the drink, thereby forced into the armed forces.
